Ever wonder if leaders should play more?
Somewhere along the leadership ladder, we’re taught that the higher we climb, the more serious we need to become. Less play, more pressure. Less experimenting, more performing.
But what if we’ve had it backwards all along?
After 20 years of building EVEREVE, I’ve learned that play isn’t a distraction from growth—it’s the fuel. Play sparks creativity. And creativity is what drives change, movement, and progress—in business and in life.
To protect that creative spark, I’ve developed a few habits that help me stay grounded in play. Sunday Night Play is one of them. I carve out time each week in my home clothing studio where I try on pieces that inspire me and experiment with new outfit ideas.
It’s not polished. It’s not perfect. But that’s the point.
Play is trial and error. It’s curiosity in motion.
This week, I gave myself a theme: open-weave summer sweaters. I made them the hero of my Sunday night edit, and I let myself play with texture, layering, and looks that felt both fresh and functional. What came out of that little challenge is what you’ll see in the photo I’m sharing today.
We’re also bringing this idea of intentional play into EVEREVE HQ. We’re designing play rooms where our merchant and styling teams can experiment, try new combinations, and reimagine the edge of what’s possible. Because creativity needs a space to breathe—and we believe that’s just as important as data and deadlines.
One of the books that has shaped my thinking here is Play by Dr. Stuart Brown. He writes:
“Play is not the opposite of work. It’s the gateway to vitality. It’s the purest expression of our humanity and the most powerful path to discovering who we truly are.”
And one of my favorite quotes of all time reminds me:
“The master in the art of living makes little distinction between his work and his play.”
(James Michener)
This is the heartbeat of Ever Wonder—the practice of asking questions, staying curious, and remembering that style is a living, breathing, joyful thing.
So here’s my invitation: Play with me.
Follow along as I share my Sunday night edits and outfit experiments. Because when we play, we grow. And when we grow, we move forward.
With Love,
— Megan
